New Year Message 2021

A new year starts impressively in the chaos of pandemic. The year 2020 must have been an unforgettable year for each. May the year 2021 be the first but a bright step of our new human endeavour.

昨年は誰にとっても、大変な一年であったと思います。どうか今年が人類の新しい旅の、明るい第一歩となりますように。

Living in the Pandemic

In the darkness of this winter

Many people left our lands,

Became starlight very high in the sky.

They lighten our feet forever, and

Illuminate the direction of our journey.

In the silent darkness of Christmas night,

A new light was born again inside us:

A seed of light for the world.

この冬の闇の中で、

たくさんの人たちが私たちの国を去り、

空高くで星の光となりました。

彼らは私たちの足元を永遠に照らし続け、

私たちの旅の方角を照らし出します。

一方、クリスマスの静寂の闇の中では

新しい光がまた、私たちの中で生まれました。

この世界のための光の種です。

闇ののちに、

夜明けは大地と生き物を洗い清めます。

そして、私たちの涙は雨の粒へと変わり、

土に染みます。

やがてそこに、一つの植物が芽を出すでしょう。

そして、小さな葉をつけるでしょう。

朝の光の中で、私たちはそれを見つけ、

愛し、育てます。

その芽は、静謐な樹となるまでに豊かに茂り、

私たちをひどい嵐や灼熱の陽の光から

やがて護ってくれます。

いつの日か、私たちがこの樹の下に立つ時には、

天より虹が現れることでしょう。

After the darkness,

Dawn purges earth and creatures.

Our tears transform into raindrops,

which soak into the soil.

Before long, a plant will sprout there

and it will have tiny leaves.

In the morning light,

we will find it, and

we will love and grow it.

The plant will thrive to be a serene tree,

which guards us against

heavy storms and scoring sunshine.

One day, when we will stand under this tree

A rainbow shall appear from heaven.

May Love of heaven eliminate 

disease, conflict, anxiety, and poverty, 

leading us to a new dynamic and sparkling endeavour on this planet.

どうか、天国の愛が

病、対立、不安や貧困を拭い去り、

この惑星での、ダイナミックで光輝く未知への旅へと

私たちを導いてくれますように。
